Only #16!!

I'm totally a slacker!! Like a lot of my faces (doodles!), I drew her in class, in the dark, while someone was talking. I focus better on what someone's saying if my hands are busy. It doesn't make for good art, but it helps me concentrate.

So, it's been almost a week since I posted. I know you haven't missed me (it's totally OK), but you wanna know why?? (Pretend you do!) I got an internship. In graphic design. Yay, Goog! I'm pretty excited about it and I'm having LOTS of fun with it, but I also have a tendency to be obsessive when I'm working (duh) and so I've been obsessive. Also, it's what I'm doing instead of morning skart. I know, but you gotta do what you gotta do, right? So, I miss my peeps and my paints, but I'm having fun, and I'll figure out how to incorporate daily art again. Hopefully this week will be more arty!

Ugly faces count, too...

This is one I doodled at work, and she really wouldn't look all that bad except I totally shaded her nose like she's Stephen Fry. These things happen, I guess.

She is number 13, and I wanted you to get the full effect of the doodles, so here is a full-length shot.

I actually spent a lot more time shading her (OK, a couple of minutes), so she doesn't look quite this awful, but I forgot to take a picture.

Face #10

This time I wanted to go a little more complicated. I actually drew a face ON the canvas, but she came out pretty awful, so then I drew one on paper to collage onto the canvas, but I forgot to take a  picture before she was collaged :)

So, here I'm just messing around with sprays, covering up the drawing:

Then, here she is about half a million steps later:

And this is what she looks like right now, but I'm going to let her dry overnight before I play with her anymore:

The facial features themselves are super light because I just collaged her on and then painted over it. I haven't tried to define anything or shade her yet. Maybe tomorrow.

Just so you all know, I made a rule for myself that ALL faces count. This is a groundhog and he has a face. Any and all faces, doodled, scribbled on homework, painted, sketched, lovingly tended or drawn on the back of a receipt - they ALL count. For me. This project is just about setting a goal and accomplishing it, it's not a competition, I don't care whose faces are prettier than mine, it's all about me, me, me!

Kelly (of course) talked me into 29 Faces. All right, it really didn't take much convincing and probably went a lot like this:

Kelly: I think I'm going to do 29 Faces for Feb. You wanna?
Goog: If you're going it, I wanna do it.

Yes, we're 12 years old. Anyway, here is number one:

Can you see the fingerprints? There's a brown one in the middle of her forehead and a blue one near her eye. Awesome, huh? She's feeling a little insecure...

It's just a flyer for school (graphic design school, remember). We had to make a flyer and it had to be a certain size and that was almost all of the instructions. SO, I'm totally counting this in my 29 faces tally. I did NOT draw it, I didn't take the picture (I got it from Google images). But I worked with it, and now it counts as a face that I worked on in May.

29 Faces for May

I'm going to do this "challenge" but (of course) in my own way. I'm a firm believe in practice making perfect. However, I already draw a lot of faces. Not all of them are beautiful. Some of them are silly and some of them are UGLY and some of them are just doodles in the margins of my math notes. They ALL count. I was going to make a new journal for this challenge and concentrate on drawing consistently good faces, but you know what? That won't happen 29 days in a row. Some days I just cant make the features line up, can't make both eyes look the same, can't get the coloring right, whatever. So brace yourselves for these faces, they're coming at you: good, bad, and/or ugly.
